SKU: TCDGETTINREADY
Released in June of 1966, this album features Norman Whitfield and Eddie Holland’s “Ain’t To Proud To Beg.” Norman’s melody had a touch of blues and sounded as anguished and desperate as Eddie Holland’s words, which David Ruffin brought to life. David sang his ass off on that one, and by the time he was halfway through the session, he was drowning in sweat and his glasses were all over his face. I stood in the control room shouting at him between takes – “Come on man, you can do it!” Listening to that record now you can hear David was giving it his all. We had a feeling in our bones that this was going to do something big. It is a real departure from our previous hits, it suited us. Plus it showed off the earthier, soulful side of David’s singing in a way most of our songs before it did not.
Enjoy,
Otis
